About WOW!

History of WOW! Magazine

Inception and Early Years (2004-2010)

WOW! Women of the Word Magazine was first launched in October 2004 by Candie A. Mitchell-Price, Founder/Editor-in-Chief. Initially introduced as a humble newsletter, it resonated with women seeking spiritual growth and a deeper connection with Jesus Christ. The positive reception propelled WOW! to evolve into a full-feature magazine quickly.

Over the next seven years, WOW! expanded its reach nationally and internationally, amassing thousands of subscribers and downloads across various countries. The magazine became a beacon for Christian women aged 18 to 65+, offering inspirational content that nurtured faith and provided practical life insights. With contributions from over thirty writers, the publication became a collaborative platform where women could share their stories, testimonies, and wisdom.  WOW! Magazine was the first magazine to have four platforms for readers: digital download, print, online, and an interactive flippable version.Â

Hiatus and Brief Revival (2010, 2015-2016)

In October 2010, after a fruitful run of seven years, WOW! ceased its publications.  Recognizing the ongoing need for such a platform, WOW! made a brief comeback from 2015 to 2016, rekindling its mission to inspire and empower women through faith-based content.

Rebirth as Flagship of Word Girlz (January, 2025 and Beyond)

Now, WOW! is poised to reclaim its role as a leading Christian lifestyle publication under the umbrella of Word Girlz, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by Candie A. Mitchell-Price, who also serves as its Chief Executive Officer. Word Girlz is committed to fostering creativity, spiritual growth, and literacy, particularly in underserved and marginalized communities.

As the flagship initiative of Word Girlz, WOW! will continue its legacy as a quarterly magazine designed to nurture a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. The publication aims to provide a dynamic platform for women to share their stories, insights, and creative expressions. Through its pages, readers will find inspiration, encouragement, and empowerment to lead fulfilling lives rooted in faith.

Looking Ahead

The revival of WOW! signifies more than just the return of a magazine; it marks the resurgence of a movement dedicated to uplifting women through the power of the Word. With a renewed vision and the support of Word Girlz, WOW! is set to make a lasting impact on communities by addressing not only spiritual needs but also contributing to literacy and education initiatives.

Under the leadership of Candie A. Mitchell-Price, WOW! Women of the Word Magazine is committed to continuing its mission of inspiring Christian women worldwide, offering content that is both relevant and transformative. The magazine’s rich history serves as a foundation for its future endeavors, as it strives to be a source of light and hope in the lives of its readers.
